Organized by the United Way of the Midlands, the Day of Caring is an annual volunteer service event open to individuals and teams of volunteers in Douglas, Sarpy, and Pottawattamie counties. Participants help local non-profit agencies by stocking food pantries, painting, gardening, doing light repair projects or assisting clients. The next Day of Caring is on August 25th, 2017.
There are as many reasons to serve as there are people who serve. Volunteering is not just an altruistic act. It’s an opportunity to advance in all areas of your life. Here are just a few things you can gain when you give your time and yourself:
Help local basic needs programs provide services to those in need. Projects include sorting donations, serving meals and holding product drives to help local families.
Help local kids succeed in school with volunteer opportunities including mentoring, tutoring and reading to groups of kids.
Help local young adults and adults become workforce ready by volunteering to provide childcare during tutoring sessions, supporting local career clothing closets and becoming an employment coach.
Help a local nonprofit by volunteering your time behind the scened with administrative and office work support throughout the week.
Volunteering through the United Way of the Midlands is a great way to give back, while getting involved in helping some of the most critical challenges and issues facing our community. We've compiled a list of resources for local companies to help your employees give their time most effectively to nonprofits in need of assistance. Whether you have an hour or an afternoon, we can provide you with a quality experience that improves the lives of others.
