Investment in education programs for parents to diminish or eliminate physical and emotional abuse and neglect of children by providing support, education and guidance to parents.
Child Saving Institute’s Parenting Program is an early childhood program providing new parents with the knowledge and skills to help their children grow-up in a safe, nurturing environment. Services are offered on a voluntary basis and include: parent education; child development education; modeling and coaching; and support on topics related to pregnancy, childbirth, attachment/bonding, and child development.
Community Education services at Heartland Family Service provide classes intended to prevent or reduce the impact of criminal behavior and child abuse, resulting in a safer and stronger community. Our United Way funding proposal focuses on the Positive Parenting Group component of Community Education. The purpose of the Positive Parenting Group (PPG) program is to diminish or eliminate physical and emotional abuse and neglect of children by providing support, education and guidance to parents.
Ready in 5 seeks to prepare refugee children and their parents for the American school system. In partnership with the YMCA, we choose the largest refugee areas in the city and go in the homes to provide educational instruction to groups of children, ages 3 to 5, and their parents. The goal is to teach children the basic academic concepts and social skills they will need to know in order to be successful in kindergarten, and to empower parents to be their children's first teachers. We are able to do this with the help of paid Cultural Ambassadors who serve as interpreters and cultural contacts so that we can reach the refugee populations effectively.
