Our community is a complex place. It is filled with needs, opportunities and challenges as diverse as the people who live here. Caring for our community and its people requires the work and dedication of us all. We ask ourselves, what does it take to make this the best possible place to live? Where do we see potential, problems, and promise? How do we make this a better place for future generations? To help find the answers, United Way of the Midlands, Iowa West Foundation and the Omaha Community Foundation, in collaboration with ConAgra Foods, Inc., joined forces in a unique and important initiative. We called on the people of Douglas, Sarpy and Pottawattamie counties to share their thoughts and concerns through an online survey. The valuable insight gathered through this survey is an integral part of planning and finding solutions that best serve us all.
At the conclusion of the assessment, UWM management provided recommendations to the UWM Board for the organization’s future direction, and they were approved in March 2014. Through the work of the community assessment, many complex problems were identified and discussed recognizing that several interrelating causes cannot easily be isolated. To examine a complex problem, a system must be employed to address and, likely more realistically influence the issues. Read the full results here.
