No More Empty Pots was awarded a $20,000 grant from United Way of the Midlands. The grant will go towards the Community Market Basket Program, providing over 20,000 pounds of local healthy fresh produce to 100 individuals and families at three different distribution sites. No More Empty Pots will also provide budget-friendly nutrition-centered cooking demonstrations for intergenerational participants. The Community Market Basket features a flexible payment plan to encourage participants to purchase more fresh local produce. In addition, the CMB plan includes pay-as-you-go and dollar for dollar match for SNAP purchase of local fruits and vegetables.

The United Way of the Midlands is kicking off the giving year and celebrating community members on Aug. 23 with the United Way of the Midlands’ Campaign Kickoff. The event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Capitol District.
