OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — United Way of the Midlands recently donated $80,000 to the American Red Cross to support disaster services in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area.
The Red Cross says funds will help families in preparedness, response and recovery–the complete disaster services cycle. This year, the Red Cross helped serve people in Council Bluffs and Omaha after flooding impacted the area by opening shelters, serving meals, delivering relief supplies and distributing assistance financially.
The Red Cross additionally works with other partners, like local fire departments and emergency management. Volunteers installed over 1,500 smoke alarms and educated families on the risks of fire and making homes safer this year.
