Kids Can Community Center receiving $220,000 donation from United Way of the Midlands

The partnership between the two groups goes back nearly a century.

United Way of the Midlands is awarding over $200,000 to an Omaha children’s nonprofit.

The Kids Can Community Center says the money will go a long way to serving families who need child care.

“They have a place to go to not only learn but get engaged in a lot of different activities,” Robert Patterson, the Kids Can Community Center CEO, said.

More than 1,400 kids in Douglas and Sarpy counties benefit from the programs here every year.

They cover early childhood education and out-of-school experiences.

Now, United Way of the Midlands is giving $220,000 to the center for the upcoming fiscal year.

“Starting the kids off right to make sure they’re ready for kindergarten, ready for school, is so important for the entire fabric of our society,” Patterson said.
