Blue Collar BoxingWhat a night! Thanks to our supporters, our Blue Collar Boxing event was an absolute knock out.
United For Good
The relationship between the AFL-CIO and United Way is built upon a mutual desire to create a better, stronger and more vibrant community. Partners since 1941, it’s that shared commitment to our community that led to the creation of this event in 2019. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from Blue Collar Boxing directly benefit the Nebraska Center for Workforce Development and Education and United Way of the Midlands.
9 UNIONS REPRESENTED
A Fight to Remember
On November 24 at Ralston Arena, spectators began pouring in when the doors opened at 6 PM. Everyone was excited to support their favorite fighters and the teams to which they had been assigned. After a rousing performance of the Star Spangled Banner and the presentation of the color guard, the fights commenced.
There were plenty of local labor union members that were up for the challenge! Individuals from nine different labor unions signed up to participate and train for the big night.

About the Nebraska Center for Workforce Development and Education
While Nebraska is in the process of recovery and rebuilding, the state is still facing a workforce crisis. By creating opportunities for Omaha’s young people to gain exposure to and pursue careers in the trades, the Nebraska Center for Workforce Development and Education (NCWDE) is increasing the qualified workforce in Nebraska.
About United Way of the Midlands
United Way of the Midlands has served the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro for more than 98 years. Guided by best practices and community input, this nonprofit approaches poverty in a specific way – a “united” way. With the support of volunteers, community partners and donors, UWM invests 93 cents of every donated dollar in our local community. These dollars fund more than 100 local nonprofit programs that are addressing pressing social and economic disparities and meeting families essential needs, such as food, a sate place to go after school and job support. Together, these programs create an entire circle of support around our community.
