WE ARE EMERGING LEADERS
Inspire. Educate. Empower. The Emerging Leaders are passionate professionals under 40 who are driven to make a difference through volunteerism, advocacy and philanthropy. We engage the next generation of leaders to influence positive change in our community through United Way.
In the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area, more than 5,500 third grade students were not reading at grade level during the 2016-17 academic year. We believe this is 5,500 students too many. That’s why we have dedicated our time, talents, and financial support to United Way of the Midlands’ Book Trust initiative.
About Book Trust
This initiative provides a platform for our talented emerging leaders to channel their passion into tangible and actionable work that makes positive community impact. The Grade Level Literacy Initiative is to implement a literacy pilot to support K – 3 students across ten school and the purpose is to put books into the hands of children at Howard Kennedy Elementary.
Book Trust prioritizes creating personal libraries for individual students and includes a $7 monthly budget for all students in the elementary school to choose 2 – 3 books to own; at the end of the school year, each student will own approximately 20 books to encourage family engagement in reading and bonus points for the school through Scholastic Reading Club to allow teachers to purchase additional books and classroom resources.
Individuals who identify as an Emerging Leader and make an annual gift of $250 or more to UWM will enjoy the following:
Join the movement and learn about the issues that confront people in our metro area and how you can help
Be a part of a network of change-makers who share your goals and successes
Make an Impact
Give back to the community by participating in fundraising and volunteer opportunities
Receive invites to professional development training opportunities and special events
