The one-day “Attendance matters” conference is headlines by keynote speaker, Hedy Chang, Executive Director of Attendance Works, and national expert and coauthor of the seminal research on early chronic absence.

United Way of the Midlands and the School Based Attendance Coalition invite you to help kick off Iowa and Nebraska’s Attendance Awareness Month Campaign activities. Our regional campaign is part of a nationwide event recognizing the connection between school attendance and academic achievement. Nearly 13,000 students in our three-county area (Douglas, Sarpy, and Pottawattamie counties) missed more than 10% or 18+ days of school last year. Chronic absence is a problem we can solve when the whole community works with families and schools.

For the first time ever, mayors, superintendents, school administrators, juvenile justice and child welfare agencies, nonprofits, students and families from Iowa and Nebraska will come together to unite around improving school attendance rates in our metro area.

Let’s help our kids Attend school. Aspire to greatness. And Graduate.
